Please remember that a hurricane watch is issued when a storm is expected to arrive with 36 hours. If there is a hurricane warning, you have 24 hours before the arrival of the storm.

Emergency Planning

Timing is critical to good planning. The time to put your survival plan into action is when forecasters predict a storm is headed toward Florencia at the Colony.  The first step to knowing what to do when the storm is coming is to have decided early whether you're staying or evacuating. The State of Florida Emergency Management web site has a Which Path You Should Take Brochure (PDF) that will help you navigate whether you're evacuating or staying.

  • Know your risks.
  • Prepare several evacuation or sheltering options for your family.
  • Prepare your Emergency Supply Kit before the start of hurricane season.
  • Print your Emergency Supply List 
  • Secure items in and around your home before tropical storm force winds arrive.
  • Be sure all family members know who to call or where to gather if you become separated.
  • Let family and friends in other locations know your evacuation plans.  The Family Emergency Plan is a great tool to help you create a plan that is specific to your family's needs.
